A woman's sexual obsession will be her downfall-or her liberation.

For successful African American businesswoman Zoe Reynard, finding the pleasure she wants, the way she wants it, is not worth the risk of losing everything she has: marriage to the man she has loved since childhood, a thriving company, three wonderful children. But Zoe feels helpless in the grip of an overpowering addiction-to sex.

Finding a compassionate woman therapist to help her, Zoe finally summons the courage to tell her torrid story, a tale of guilt and desire as shocking as it is compelling. From the sensitive artist with whom she spends stolen hours on rumpled sheets to the rough and violent man who draws her toward destruction, Zoe is a woman desperately searching for fulfillment-and something darker, deeper, and perhaps deadly. As her life spins out of control and her sexual escapades carry her toward a dangerous choice, Zoe is racing against time to uncover the source of her "fatal attraction." Chilling secrets tumble forth from the recesses of a woman's mind, and perilous temptations lead toward a climax that can threaten her sanity, her marriage-and her life.

I didn't really like this book. I thought it was just ok. The main character had her issues and didn't solve them in a way I thought she should have. I also felt like there was almost too much going on at times and had to stop and think. Even though the book had multiple characters, I felt like we could have done without a couple and the book still would have been ok. This just isn't what I thought this book would be and I was disappointed.

Wow, where do I start? This book was way more than I thought it would be.Zoe and James have been childhood sweethearts, now they are married with children. Zoe has always felt different, always need more. She has the perfect life, the most loving and caring husband, onto of that sexy. But there is something missing. He's not giving Zoe what she needs in the bedroom. Needing that itch scrathedm Zoe will venture into a world she would have never thought she would enter. Cheating on her husband... But not with one, or even two, but three people. They each give her something she is needing. Finally going for help, she spills her all to her therapist. But want once was fun, is now tearing her apart. Zoe is a sex addict, but why? How did this all come about? When everything starts crumbling around her and her secrets arent secrets no more, can James and Zoe keep their marriage going. Can James finally give his wife what she is seeking in their bedroom. This is the first book I've read by an Afracian-America author. As well as a book that all the main characters are the same race. This book was pronominal. It keeps you engaged, keeps you turing the page. And finally saying "I didn't see that coming." An absolutely amazing read.

The number of books that I’ve re-read are few and far between, kind of like thongs at a Omega Psi Phi toga party. But when I heard that Zane’s book ‘Addicted’ was being made into a movie, I knew that I would revisit it. And indeed I have done so. I was curious to see how long it has been since I read this book last, and after a semi-quick search on (ugh) Amazon, I found out. 2006. 2006 was the first time I read ‘Addicted’ by Zane. Eight years have passed since I read from the TRUE queen of erotica’s second novel.Just for kicks I went back to see what I wrote in my first review of this book. Looking back at that review I felt like an artist at the age of fifty looking back on his works he did as a child. A lot of things have changed since then, including my feelings about this book. I did enjoy it (again, I don’t normally re-read books, even less so books that I didn’t like) but I saw it from a different perspective this time.I think Zoe is less ‘addicted’ and more like extremely unsatisfied with her sex life with her semi-eunuch husband. Punk ass. Jason, Zoe’s spouse, has a fire hot sexy wife who wants nothing more than to please her husband in every way possible. He loves her, yes, but he’s scared of her. Well… rather he’s scared of her… well, you know. Zoe tries to fix the problem but you know the saying, “you can lead a man to water but you can’t make him lick.”So with her being fed up with sharing her bed with a lover who gives her no loving, Zoe starts to weaken. A person can only be rejected so many times before desire starts to send out her hormones. Zoe’s estrogens are the smell of honeysuckle. And honeysuckle is sweet to everyone. And it doesn’t take long for someone(s) to taste her flower. It has been said, “if a man has not ever wanted to kill a woman, that man has never been in love.” I will add, “if you’ve never risked all for an orgasm, then you’ve never been horny with no sight of relief.” OK… maybe that isn’t as poetic and full of crap… but still. Being horny sucks! Just ask Zoe.Zane has always been the author who makes me laugh with her wit and having her characters say the most unimaginable things. ‘Addicted’ brought back memories of that. It also brought back high school memories. A lot of the references in the story made me smile and reminisce. I probably would have finished this book a lot quicker if I didn’t take so many walks down memory lane. Anyway… where was I? Zoe… horny… itch… orgasm… oh yeah now I remember! As innocently immoral as Zoe’s decisions were, all she wanted was for HER man to desire her above all else. She never expected her desires to lead to this. What is “this?” Crack open this book and find out. An orgasm is good, damn great even. But at what cost? Is Zoe addicted or just misunderstood, lonely, and horny? While this was a good read by Zane, it is also one her less sexual ventures. The sexuality is there, just not to the extent of her other books. Not in a bad way, just different.I’ve been a fan of Zane’s for a long time now and I am so happy that she is going to be on the big screen! I hope you will join me in coming out and showing out on the opening weekend for ‘Addicted’ the movie. The weekend of October 10th Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Pick a day, pick some friends, pick a theater, take pictures, and share them with the world. Zane has given us years of sensual erotic reading, we can certainly give her a weekend.

O M G …so I initially heard about Addicted from a fellow blogger but I didn’t know too much about it and really didn’t give it much thought. And then I happened to stumble upon the trailer for the movie (releasing on October 10th ) and I was sold! My interest was immediately piqued and I was determined to read the book before seeing the movie. What I loved most about this book is the way it’s written. I greatly appreciate “real talk”, meaning characters who talk like your average person, slang and all. It makes them easier to relate to and the story just flows better because it’s almost like you’re talking to or listening to a friend. That’s one of the reasons I was able to finish it in a day, well that and because I literally couldn’t put it down. While I typically don’t go for books that involve cheating or love triangles I couldn’t resist this one. We always hear about male characters or even male celebs in real life being sex addicts, but we never really hear the story from a female addict’s perspective. Some people might say, “I don’t care what she has to say about it, cheating is cheating”, but it’s really not, at least not in this situation. Zane does an amazing job of portraying Zoe and Jason’s relationship from the moment they first met until their current predicament. She basically lays out the foundation showing their ups and downs and mixed emotions, so we know without a shadow of a doubt that Zoe is in fact madly in love with her husband. She’s just sick and needs help.I can’t help but place some of the blame on Jason. Zoe reaches out to him every chance she gets, trying to initiate both sex and conversation, and he turns her down every single time. On the rare occasions they actually do have sex it’s bland and boring and Zoe is always left unsatisfied. It’s not that she doesn’t desire her husband or that she finds him unattractive. It’s the complete opposite, she comments on his good looks and amazing personality all the time. The problem is that he’s just not worried about her needs and wants, only his own, and that’s not enough for her. Coupled with the addiction, it just leads to numerous bad decisions on Zoe’s part. The amount of drama, romance, suspense and over all craziness packed into this novel was insane, in a good way. I was literally on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book, hence the reason I finished it in a day. All of the plot twists really did catch me by surprise, especially the ending. Zane does an amazing job of weaving an intricately detailed story of lies and deception and spinning it into an absolutely gripping unputdownable (totally making that a word) novel. My coworkers and I did a group reading of this book, even though we all finished at different times, and we all agreed that it was sexy, shocking and seriously intense. And we’ll all be seeing the movie together :)As much as I loved this book I do have a couple of issues. My main issue being a little something I like to call inappropriate use of exclamation points. In my opinion exclamation points are used to express excitement or anger and should always be used in the proper context. That wasn’t the case here; exclamation points were used at the most awkward times when neither of the aforementioned emotions was present. Now this might not bother you in the slightest but for me it interfered with my reading because in my mind I’m picturing the characters responding a certain way and the exclamation points just don’t coincide with what’s being said or the tone of the scene. My other issue is that certain plot points seemed unbelievable. To give an example I have to include a SPOILER so consider this your warning. When Zoe is in the hospital from her accident she awakes to her husband and her therapist in the room. The therapist then proceeds to tell Zoe how she already informed Jason of EVERYTHING that had happened with Zoe and her affairs. Umm, I’m sorry but is a doctor supposed to do that?? What about the whole doctor-patient confidentiality thing?? I mean I felt like Zoe’s therapist was way underqualified to help her anyway and should’ve referred her to another doctor who specialized in Zoe’s type of addiction but that’s another issue entirely. Maybe she was supposed to be like that, who knows. This was my first experience reading a book by Zane but definitely not my last. I can’t wait to see what else she has to offer. Oh and if you couldn’t tell I DEFINITELY recommend this one ;)
